Ivo Neame

Ivo Neame has recorded and performed with many artists in the UK and abroad, including Empirical, Seb Rochford, F-ire collective big band, Stan Sulzmann, Julian Siegel, Byron Wallen, Stephane Payen, Gerard Presencer, Gilad Atzmon, Mark Lockheart, Chris Batchelor, Matthew Herbert and the Cinematic Orchestra
.
Recent collaborations have included a live album with Phronesis released on Edition Records in late 2010 with NY drummer Mark Guiliana (Avishai Cohen) and Danish bass player Jasper Hoiby. With Phronesis he has played at jazz festivals and venues all over the world including North Sea Jazz Festival, Brecon Jazz Festival, Copenhagen Jazz Festival, and Ronnie Scott's club and has been nominated for the Parliamentary Jazz Award 2010.

Ivo’s other contributions to progressive, improvised music have been in collaborations with members of the LOOP collective; as pianist/bandleader of the Ivo Neame Quartet (see attached reviews), with the trio Phronesis (also on piano), and on saxophone with Jim Hart's Gemini.

The Ivo Neame quartet features Jim Hart (vibes), Jasper Hoiby (bass) and drum sensation James Maddren, and was recently signed to Edition Records.   The first album Caught in the Light of Day was released in October 2009.

Projects (as leader)

  • Duo Plus
    Duo Plus crept in to being after Ivo and Jim were asked on several occasions to play as a duo and began exploring the different textures that piano and saxophone (Ivo) with drums and vibraphone (Jim) could create.
  • Ivo Neame Quintet
    This band features some of the finest young jazz musicians from London playing melodic contemporary original music, moving seamlessly from freely improvised explorations to tightly arranged sections.

Projects (as sideman)

  • Dave Manington's Riff Raff
    Complex rhythms and harmonies characterise this music which draws on folk, electronica and contemporary classical influences.
  • Fringe Magnetic
    Featuring some of the most exciting and dynamic young musicians from the London jazz, classical and improvised-music scenes, the project aims to fuse chamber and orchestral palettes and shapes with the vibrant energy of cutting-edge jazz.
